Monterey Tour, Carmel and 17-Mile Drive Average rating: 4.6 based on 9 reviews. 2008-03-13 My trip to Carmel was in a large SUV - I hadn't expected that but it was very comfortable as I, the lone tourist, got the front seat - we spent most of the time on the road with a stop for lunch and a brief shopping foray in Carmel - otherwise stops were very brief photo opps - I felt I saw a lot of the coast - would have liked more time in Carmel just to poke around the streets - all in all I felt it was a very good surface look at the lay of the land and homes - it never felt like a destination tour though as we just kept moving all day long. The scenery was spectacular and the weather was warm and sunny except for some fog early on. Our driver/tour guide (Larry) was informative , courteous,and humorous. The only negative for us was the amount of time he spent encouraging us to give him a large tip.He suggested around 20%.
