The Phantom of the Opera Broadway Musical has played to over 80 million people in 25 countries in 124 cities around the world since its first performance. The New York production alone has enchanted over 12 million audience members in its over 20-year run.
The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of Christine, a lovely young singer who is attracted to a mysterious Phantom haunting the old Paris Opera House and helps her learn how to sing. Phantom is based on Gaston Leroux's novel but has made the music of the production famous. This musical tale begins with a series of accidents that take place inside the Paris Opera House prior to a grand performance opening. The lead actress, Carlotta, refuses to go on stage to perform her part and Christine triumphantly takes her place and turns into the star of the show.
During opening night, she meets her childhood friend, Raoul. While alone in her dressing room, the Phantom who had been teaching her to sing, finally makes his appearance. In a jealous fit, the Phantom takes Christine to his lair beneath the Opera House to declare his love for her. It is only after the declaration of love that the story turns into a heartwrenching tale of love. The story moves from the Phantom's underground hideaway to the dizzying roof of the Opera House, as the battle begins for Christine's love.
